Before the SSRIs became commonly used for panic attacks, attack the most commonly prescribed types of panic medication was TCS (tricyclic anti-depressant) drugs such as Norpramin, Tofranil and precautions. These drugs were effective in the treatment of the disorder, they have largely fallen out of favor in most cases, because of the risk of side effects that come along with these medications. There can be exceptions, of course.
